One Night Stand at La Petite Mort Gallery, Ottawa
The upcoming event will be the first showing of an extended collection of Valorie's new work in almost three years. But it is only for one night and it's Good Friday! Join Valorie at La Petite Mort Gallery, 306 Cumberland Street, on Friday April 10, 2009 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Just drop by or, better still, RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org so there are ample refreshments. If you purchase an original or have in the past you will be eligible to choose a free offset litho print of one of Valorie's pieces.
The centepiece of the exhibit is the Parallel Universes series. These paintings deal with the tension created by the efforts of an earthbound Taurus confronted by ambiguity. Post-Modern time forces us to deal with constant ambiguity: nothing is set or pre-determined no matter how much many of us wish it were. From gender identification and lack there of, to accommodation of religious beliefs or a tidy definition of what art is, all give us pause as we deal with the globalization and freedom of the post modern world.
If I have succeeded, my work challenges the viewer to see more than one universe, to look beyond the superficial and to appreciate and enjoy the complexities of our world — to appreciate the 'other'. Valorie Preston
